Undoubtedly, one of the most recognizable natural beauty brands is LUSH cosmetics. They are trail blazers in the space of ethical beauty standards and have been doing it before it was given much thought and long before it became a trend. I remember as a pre-teen being introduced to the store, and being overwhelmed by the amazing scents and colours. LUSH brings fun and uniqueness to their products. You can read up on LUSH’s product standards on their website but here are a few reasons why they stand apart as a brand:
- LUSH Cosmetics was established over 30 years ago and are regarded as a leader in the natural beauty industry.
- They use ethical packaging standards with recyclable containers. With fresh face masks in particular you are encouraged to bring back 5 containers to the store to get one for free.
- They’re products contain only natural or safe ingredients.
- LUSH Cosmetics does not test on animals.
- All products are handmade. You can actually see who the creator was, stickered on the packaging with an expiry date.
One of my true reasons for being such a fan has to be the fresh face masks. They’re actually so fresh you have to keep them in the fridge! Perfect for a home spa day, they’re a natural beauty product and are handmade without harsh chemicals or preservatives. Their ingredients combine natural plant elements like seaweed and tea tree oil with delicious things you can find in the kitchen like chocolate, bananas and honey.
If you follow my blog or social media, you’ll know I’m an avid face mask user. I love trying new options out there and quickly narrow down my favourites. The LUSH fresh face masks were no exception to this and over time I have tried basically them all.
Here is the list of my favourite 5:
Oatifix feels like a true homemade face mask and evens smells like banana muffins, so nostalgic! If I had to choose a favourite based on scent, this one would be the winner. This mask is best for dry or sensitive skin and has been a staple in my fridge this Winter, as I find the drier my skin gets, the more irritated and red it will be. It’s very calming and non abrasive with ground almonds to provide gentle exfoliation. Natural oils and butters will leave skin feeling softer and more bouncy.
Smells not great, but works like a charm! I reach for this fresh mask when my skin is irritable or breaking out. It contains garlic (you can see and smell it!) and tea tree oil to cleanse and soothe problem skin, plus honey to soften. I use this face before bed and wake up seeing a noticeable different in my skin’s condition. Perfect for splotchiness or blemishes, this blend will combat problem skin without drying it out, a very difficult balance to achieve.
DON’T LOOK AT ME
This crazy blue face mask smells like lemons and will leave your skin feeling extra clean. It contains fine ground rice and provides a very effective exfoliating scrub to make skin instantly brighter. I start by applying evenly to my face and neck and leaving for 15 minutes. While removing, I scrub gently in a circular motion to take advantage of the extra exfoliating properties of the rice. If your skin is feeling a little dull and you’ve got an event you need an instant boost for- this mask will be your best friend.
With ingredients like seaweed, aloe and rose absolute, BB Seaweed feels like a classic face mask and is so refreshing. Especially right out of the fridge, applying this mask will cool and soothe the skin. Olive oil and honey are also added to this product for a hydration boost. This mask is a crowd pleaser, and great for any skin type. I can see this mask being a skin care staple in the coming Summer months or great to take on a beach vacation, for the cooling and soothing effect after sun exposure.
A true mud mask, cupcake will deep clean the skin using very effective rhassoul mud and cocoa powder. While I usually stay away from products formulated for oily skin, having a drier skin type myself, the effectiveness of this product is why it’s on the list. If you have oily skin, this fresh mask should be kept on hand always. The mud will lift away any impurities and cocoa powder will give a clean matte finish to skin. It’s chocolate mint scent makes this product smell honestly good enough to eat.
