Well, it seems the days of the very matte look are changing. Even the queen of matte herself, Kylie Jenner appears to be taking note, recently launching lip glosses as an alternative to her lip kits, along with highlighters and blushes. I for one, am not upset about this. Don’t get me wrong, I love the occasional matte look, but as an every day staple I find it difficult to achieve without looking aged. This season is all about a bright youthful glow, and the first step to getting there is with healthy looking skin.

Glossier totally gets this. If you were patient enough to wait in line during their week long pop-up in Toronto last month, you know the brand stands firmly by their commitment to “skin first, makeup second.” Every girl can relate to the painful experience of having a bad skin day and trying to apply makeup for a night out OR the amazing experience of being able to apply barely-there foundation because of a great skin day. With the goal of a great base in mind, these three Glossier favourites will keep your skin glowing into Fall.

Step 1: Moisturizing Moon Mask

As soon as I saw this mask, I knew I had to try it. It immediately made me feel so nostalgic. It reminds me of the classic Pond’s cold cream, or the scene from It Takes Two (Olsen Twins circa ’95) when the evil stepmom exits her bedroom in a classic white face mask, and is mistaken for a ghost. Totally dated myself there, but you see what I mean! The texture is rich and creamy in a true white colour, with a minimal but fresh scent. It has an immediate cooling sensation and is the type of mask you could leave on forever (20 mins at least.) It’s ingredients are a blend of old and new combined- shea butter, hyaluronic acid, squalene, aloe and honey to name a few. We’re getting to the time of year when moisturizing masks are needed much more often. The hydrating and plumping benefits to this face mask (available online here) are a great foundation to Step 2 below.

Step 2: Wowder

Glossier’s Wowder definitely fits the multi-purpose product definition. It is a very-light coverage powder that comes in three universal shades. Definitely not useful as a full coverage foundation, but it can be built upon to blur imperfections and even out the skin tone. When layered on top of foundation, Wowder is an excellent setting powder and can be used throughout the day to matte the complexion and take away oil. It’s texture is super light and sits very soft on the skin. One of my favourite features of this product is it’s packaging. It comes in a round container with a type of built in stopper, so you’ll never open the top to have powder everywhere. Genius! (available online here)

Step 3: Cloud Paint

Blush is back, big time this season. Instead of a powdered product, Glossier reinvented the traditional blush with it’s cloud paint. Honestly fool proof to use, the liquid cheek colour can be applied to cheeks using your fingers. The colour starts subtle but can be built for a more dramatic, flushed affect. I’m using the colour Puff right now, but Glossier promotes the colours to be used and blended together to create more unique look. (available online here)

Fall is a great time to amp up your skin care routine if you’ve been neglecting it during the busy Summer months. With the change in season, you will want to switch to heavier moisturizers, oils and possibly look to change some makeup products to avoid the inevitable affect dry and cold air will have on your skin. In the next few weeks, I will be sharing some follow up posts for tips on maintaining glowing skin all year round.
